The Greatest Wall In London
By chance today
Stepping from the train
I found myself standing before
The greatest wall in London
A maze-like decade on
And it’s still here
Right where we left it
The night of my birthday
We’d been drinking
In the office, after work
Every cell was burning to discover
If you might mirror my longing
We ran to catch the same train
Left our colleagues in the dark
Reaching the platform
Your hands quickly found mine
A thrill ripped through my body
The electricity crackling in you
Shooting itself into me
I kissed you up against that wall
We had fifteen minutes at most
My lips and hands exploring
We didn’t care who was watching
The ephemeral graffiti of our lust
The train dropped you home first
Left me fizzing on adrenaline
I had to circle a midnight park
Trying to climb down from that high
Sadly, it was the first and last time
We got to light each other up
Life and morality got in our way
Shuffled us down opposing roads
I reach out and gently touch
The greatest wall in London
And briefly worship at the altar
Of our wild and vanished abandon…
